René Fouquè (1980–2016)

Our Czech colleague René Fouquè tragically died on 21 November 2016 at the age of 36. Many colleagues met him in person at the Third International Tenebrionoidea Symposium. Some researches knew him only by correspondence. But this tragic news was a shock for all our community. This friendly guy with his very charming smile passed away on the peak of his life and career. Despite his young age, he managed to make a great contribution to science. His favourite group was the large and difficult tribe Stenosini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). As a result of the study of material from many museums and his own successful expeditions to East Asia, he published several great taxonomic revisions for the East Asian genera of the tribe Stenosini. René was always sharing his plans about his field and taxonomic research with colleagues and sincerely enjoyed the success of colleagues and friends, any progress in the study of darkling beetles. Thanks to his activity and responsiveness, he was warmly welcomed in the “family” of tenebrionidologists. But as often happens, the best people are leaving us. For all science the memory about him stays in his works, because the taxonomic papers are long lasting. He will remain to friends and colleagues the same charming guy, always ready to respond to any problem.
